Metallurgical Tailings Project. The Eliseyna site represents one of the largest historical metallurgical tailings deposits in Bulgaria. The material was accumulated between 1905 and 1991 from underground and open-pit mining operations across Bulgaria, as well as from imported concentrates originating from Mali and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Currently, the metallurgical tailings alone are estimated at approximately 3.2 million tonnes, in addition to significant volumes of waste rock and low-grade material transported from multiple mining districts.
Preliminary laboratory analyses indicate the presence of economically interesting metal contents in the tailings, including approximately Cu, Fe, Pb, Au, Ag, and Pd, with additional elements such as Zn, Al, Co, and SiO₂ also present. These results confirm the polymetallic character of the tailings and their potential for reprocessing.
With modern processing technologies, the re-treatment of historical tailings has become economically viable, allowing the recovery of valuable metals from materials that were previously considered waste. The Eliseyna tailings therefore represent a significant secondary resource with strong investment potential.
The project is currently focused on evaluating processing options, preparing a technical and economic concept, and attracting a strategic investor for the recovery of metals from the tailings and the environmentally responsible redevelopment of the site.
